A Safer Route Starts at the Curb

Safety is a shared responsibility. At BVR Waste & Recycling, our drivers are out in the community every day making frequent stops, working near streets and driveways, and servicing neighborhoods across the Brazos Valley. While our team is trained to work safely and efficiently, customers and community members also play an important role in helping keep routes safe.

During Safety Month, we are reminding our customers that safe pickup starts with simple choices: placing carts properly, keeping access clear, slowing down near waste trucks, and giving drivers the space they need to do their job.

Proper Cart Placement Makes a Difference

Curbside pickup may seem routine, but each stop requires attention, space, and care. When carts are blocked by vehicles, mailboxes, low-hanging branches, fences, basketball goals, or other obstacles, drivers may have a harder time servicing the route safely and efficiently.

A blocked cart can create delays and may require the driver to make extra movements or work around hazards. By placing your cart in a clear, accessible spot on pickup day, you help protect drivers, keep routes moving, and reduce the chance of missed service.

Before pickup, take a moment to make sure your cart is visible, upright, and easy for the truck to reach. Small steps at the curb can make a big difference for the people serving your neighborhood.

Give Waste Trucks Room to Work

BVR drivers make frequent stops throughout the day. They work close to roadways, intersections, driveways, and residential areas while managing large trucks and watching for pedestrians, parked vehicles, children, pets, and other traffic.

When you see a waste truck on your street, please slow down, stay alert, and give the driver plenty of space. A few extra seconds of patience can help protect the workers keeping your community clean.

Passing too closely, speeding around a stopped truck, or driving distracted near a collection vehicle can create dangerous situations. Treat waste trucks like any other service vehicle working in your neighborhood: approach carefully, watch for movement, and allow the driver room to complete the stop safely.

Safe Routes Depend on Everyone

Safety does not stop with our drivers. It takes cooperation from the whole community. Customers can help by placing carts correctly, keeping the area around carts clear, and making sure bins are set out in a safe location. Drivers can help by following safety procedures and staying alert on their routes. Neighbors and motorists can help by slowing down and giving collection vehicles space.

Together, these small actions help create safer neighborhoods and more efficient service for everyone.

Simple Ways to Help on Pickup Day

To help keep your service on schedule and support driver safety, remember these curbside safety tips:

  • Place your cart in a clear, accessible spot.

  • Keep carts away from parked vehicles, mailboxes, low branches, and other obstacles.

  • Make sure the cart is upright and visible from the street.

  • Avoid placing carts where they block sidewalks, driveways, or traffic.

  • Slow down when approaching a waste truck.

  • Give drivers plenty of room to work.

  • Stay alert for workers, pedestrians, pets, and other vehicles nearby.

Thank You for Helping Keep Our Community Safe

BVR Waste & Recycling is proud to serve the Brazos Valley, and we are grateful for customers who help make safety a priority. Proper cart placement and safe driving near waste trucks may seem like small actions, but they have a big impact.

This Safety Month and every month, remember that a safer route starts at the curb. By keeping carts accessible and giving waste trucks space, you help protect the people who work hard to keep our community clean.
